Thank you for helping shape the future of Port Alberni!

Between June 11–22, 2026 we asked for your feedback on the Draft OCP through a variety of community engagement opportunities across the City.

The project team connected with residents through pop-up events, an Open House, and online engagement where community members could review the Draft OCP presentation and share their thoughts through a survey.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to provide feedback, ideas, and perspectives on the future of Port Alberni. Your input will help inform the next steps in the OCP process.

NEXT STEPS:

  1. City staff and the project team will review all feedback received and consider any necessary updates to the Draft before bringing it forward to Council for consideration in late summer 2026.
  2. A public hearing will also be scheduled before Council considers the OCP for adoption, providing another opportunity for the community to share their thoughts.

What is an Official Community Plan?

The Official Community Plan (OCP) is Port Alberni’s long-term vision for the future. It helps guide decisions about:

  • Where housing and businesses are located
  • Transportation and mobility choices
  • Parks, trails, and public spaces
  • Environmental protection and climate resilience
  • Infrastructure and servicing decisions
  • Economic development and community well-being

The OCP helps shape future City policies, planning decisions, and investments over the coming decades.

Previous Phases

The Port Alberni community input has helped shape the draft

Over the past several years, the draft OCP was developed through:Community engagement

  • Community engagement and surveys
  • Pop-up events and presentations
  • Conversations with community organizations and interest holders
  • Engagement with Tseshaht First Nation and Hupač̓asatḥ First Nation
  • Technical studies and policy analysis

Residents, organizations, businesses, and community partners shared valuable feedback to help inform the draft OCP currently being prepared for Council review.
