What exactly is being transferred?

    The City of Port Alberni owns Clutesi Haven Marina and has been leasing it to the Port Alberni Port Authority. What is transferring is management of the operations of the marina. All land, docks, and contracts for operating on the site transfer to City of Port Alberni. 

    What will stay the same immediately after the transfer and what might change later down the road?

    Marina services will remain the same following the transfer. All moorage agreements with current tenants will be honoured, the boat launch will still be publicly accessible and food trucks will continue to operate.

    Eventually, there will be retail and food service offerings via the sea cans on site.

    How will the construction of the roundabout affect the marina?

    For any questions relating to the construction of the roundabout, please refer to the Project Page through the Ministry of Transportation. 

    Will fishing derby schedules stay the same?

    To ensure continuity of community events, all fishing derby schedules will remain the same. However, all organizers are required to check in with the City to complete any special event permits and additional paperwork to ensure access.

    Will public access change during special event schedules?

    As with all special events on City property, public access would continue. All public users are encouraged to expect delays and plan ahead for parking due to increased traffic.

    Will moorage rates, launch fees, and service charges change?

    The City intends to hold rates without increase for 2026. Additionally, the City does not plan to charge launch fees at this time.

    Any future rates changes would be communicated well in advance.

    How will payments be made?

    Payments can be made in person at City Hall with debit or cheque. For users requiring credit card, they can use the payment portal on Marina Controller.

    How will moorage users receive invoices and payment?

    Moorage users can expect communications via clutesihavenmarina@portalberni.ca regarding invoices, contract renewal, and payment as well as moorage inquiries. 

    Will there be additional or updated policies or waivers to be signed?

    Yes. The City will be sending out updated Moorage Agreements by email to all current marina tenants.

    Will existing moorage agreements be honoured, and for how long?

    All existing moorage agreements will be honoured for 2026. More information will be provided directly to moorage users.

    Will users be required to sign new moorage agreements and when will this need to be completed?

    Yes, all moorage users will be contacted by email with information on how to sign and submit updated moorage agreements.

    How will current waitlist be managed?

    The waitlist order remain the same. All new moorage requests will need to outline all required personal and vessel information and pay a $25 at City Hall.

    Will any special rates or agreements be carried over?

    No informal rates or agreements will be carried forward.

    Will there be any interruptions to services (power, water, washroom, garbage etc)?

    All services will continue as normal. If there are any service interruptions, they will be communicated through the appropriate channels.

    Water is currently shut off to the marina during the roundabout construction. The City will communicate when the washrooms are set to resume operations.

    Will security and access change (gate access, cameras, lighting)?

    Gate access upgrades and changes will be communicated directly to all moorage users.

    City parks and facility crews will maintain the Marina on a daily schedule as with other City facilities.
