Over the coming weeks, paving, sidewalk and boulevard restoration, road marking, and site cleanup will continue to take place between 10th Avenue and 16th Avenue, signaling the end of active construction.
Restoration work is anticipated to be complete by early to mid-July at which time the contractor will start removing construction equipment and conduct a final walk-through with the City’s engineering department.
UPCOMING ACTIVITIES
Activities associated with this final stage of construction include, but are not limited to:
• completing the concrete sidewalk at 15th Avenue
• pouring and curing driveway and walkway transitions
• reinstating fencing
• restoring disturbed areas
• painting roadway lines and crosswalks
• reinstalling signs
TRAFFIC & PARKING
Parking will continue to be temporarily restricted in active work zones. Crews will do their best to maintain access to driveways, side streets and street parking, however, short interruptions or temporary closures may be required.
RESTORATION
Once restoration activities are complete, crews will demobilize, remove equipment, and do a final site cleanup. Any remaining deficiencies will be reviewed with the City and addressed before the project is formally closed out.

In the days ahead, you will see Bowerman Construction Ltd. mobilize their equipment on Burde Street. With the majority of the in-ground work complete on the new watermain and associated utilities, crews will be returning to Burde Street between 10th Avenue and 16th Avenue to carry out restoration activities and complete community improvements to the transportation network (sidewalks, bike lanes, boulevards and roadway.)
THE CONSTRUCTION PLAN
Work will begin at 10th Avenue on the north side and progress east up to 16th Avenue. Work crews will approach the project in two block sections keeping construction impacts within the active working zone.
Improvements to Burde Street include:
- New sidewalks and accessibility letdowns
- New curbs and gutters
- New delineated bike lanes
- Pedestrian bumpouts to improve visibility
- New crosswalks and road signage
- Low maintenance landscaping
Restoration activities will require the full span of the roadway blocking through traffic in the two-block section.
TRAFFIC, PARKING AND SAFETY
Residents in the area should anticipate traffic impacts as a result of this project. Through-traffic and residential parking on Burde Street will be restricted in active work zones. Local detours will be in effect. Traffic control signage will be posted outside of regular work hours to ensure traffic patterns are clearly communicated. Please use caution and follow posted signage.
CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITES
Activities associated with this project will include:
- Asphalt removal and road grading
- Catch basin construction
- Retaining wall construction
- Curb forming (including letdowns at designated corners)
- Removal of existing sidewalks and re-pouring/forming new sidewalks
- Asphalt paving for the upgraded roadway
- Bike lane installation and line painting
- Crosswalk and street line painting
Please note that certain activities listed above, like sidewalk pours, are seasonal and require warmer temperatures to ensure the product cures or hardens. As the weather warms up, these more sensitive activities will be scheduled.
ACCESS TO YOUR PROPERTY
Access to residences will be maintained; however, there may be times when construction activities temporarily block a driveway and local residents may not be able to access their property by vehicle. To help reduce inconvenience, City staff will:
- provide advance notice when driveways will be blocked;
- determine alternate options for access and parking, if available;
- keep emergency services informed;
- update residents and stakeholders on project progress; and
- be available to answer questions and address concerns.
We thank you in advance for your patience and understanding as we work to complete the Burde Street Surface Upgrades.
